<br />
It is March. The garden is coming alive. This month signifies growth, change, and newness of life for me. March is the month that my daughter was born. I had prepared the garden ahead of time so that I wouldn't have a thing to do but focus on her.<br />

It is now four years later and I am so excited that I can share gardening, one of my favorite past times, with my daughter.<br />

</div><div style="text-align: left;">This time last year I was just starting my second second semester back at school. I was taking three classes and feeling like I had purpose, a goal. Summer came and went and at the end of August Dave started his Doctorate program. I felt like it would be too much to try to go to school at the same time and, so, I decided to take the semester off. Now, here we are in January and I, once again, feel like my <i>purpose</i> is but a vapor that I am trying desperately to grasp.<br />
</div><blockquote><div style="text-align: center;"><i>Purpose</i>: Something set up as an object or end to be attained.<br />
</div></blockquote>I seem to find myself always searching for something outside my reach. The titles of Mother, Wife, Daughter, Friend, Sister don't seem to foot the bill. I feel a yearning to be better, do better, to feel a sense of <i>purpose</i>. That is why, while sitting in a Bible study last week, the speaker said something that I cannot forget.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><blockquote>"Be obsessed with the Gospel and you will find your life's calling."<br />
</blockquote><div style="text-align: left;">Obsessed? Oh, I know how to do that....I can be obsessed with anything for a fleeting moment; what shade of paint will best compliment my curtains, the bedding that I had to have and no longer want, BLOGGING, reading blogger comments, my favorite TV show, exercise, healthy food, etc, etc, etc....And, when I am really honest, the things I choose to be unhappy with. My husband, my daughter, friends, all those expectations and blaming someone or something other than myself.<br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">While I would like to say the thought of being obsessed with Christ comes easy to me, I cannot. In fact, my past habits show that I want there to be something <i>tangible</i>, something <i>real</i> I can<i> do</i>. I want there to be any other answer to this feeling of vacancy other than not spending time in the Word. Because if that is the answer....<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.dreamstime.com/open-bible-thumb197306.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.dreamstime.com/open-bible-thumb197306.jpg" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I have a lot of work to do.<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">"Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart." Psalm 37:3-4 <br />

I have no idea how many photos we lost. Dave said that Picasa was backed up a few months ago, so at least I know that our daughter's existence will be saved:) I have not had the energy to figure out how to get photos on without my program, nor have I been elbow deep in projects....Mothering and wifing have been my full-time jobs. It's amazing how much time a blog takes up, for me, that is.<br />
So, the sad story is I have no idea when I will be back up and running. I don't plan to close down permanently....this may only be temporary.<br />
So, thanks for visiting and leaving such wonderful and encouraging comments!!<br />
Hopefully, I will "see" you soon!Tamerahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05334409581656523382noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7496650627359144044.post-50278454638328410072009-11-02T08:41:00.000-08:002009-11-03T07:35:58.153-08:00Kitchen Before and After<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkAy3Ve7Eyqy2rki8H9_0_t8pBhdZWUi-XVOZenEh9htgHvVwRiaonQV3zEzl4TNuMZpWUWufYBO2znIwLxYCX3I_m69V1f96NtSdgYfjhCkDNKsEsqwcOhVEl5JINh6vIAs-Q6A2sabap/s1600/beforeafter.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkAy3Ve7Eyqy2rki8H9_0_t8pBhdZWUi-XVOZenEh9htgHvVwRiaonQV3zEzl4TNuMZpWUWufYBO2znIwLxYCX3I_m69V1f96NtSdgYfjhCkDNKsEsqwcOhVEl5JINh6vIAs-Q6A2sabap/s320/beforeafter.png" /></a><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I should mention, however, that I have no pictures of the before before of the cabinets. I painted them this green with an antiqued finish in 2005. Before that they were your standard tract home oak ugliness. The finished product was the result of FOUR coats of paint....primer, paint, antiquing glaze, and a clear coat. They WILL NOT be re-painted any time soon. Thankfully, they look fabulous with the AFTER kitchen.<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">We basically changed the counter tops and backsplash. We went with a maple butcher block that we were able to order through a local supplier, Charles McMurray Co. They sell wholesale only, but my dad was able to order for us with through his business. The tile on the backsplash is tumbled marble. I loved the way each piece had striations of color. We also added this "ledge", for lack of a better term, all the way around the kitchen. Just wanted some interest in the design.<br />

For those of you visiting from <a href="http://asoftplacetoland-kimba.blogspot.com/2009/11/diy-day-and-giveaway.html">Kimba's DIY Day</a>, Dave did the tile work, counter tops, and installation of all appliances and sink and faucet. I painted the cabinets and grouted and gave my opinion:)<br />

</div>I have a confession. I wish my home had more of the "old" and less of the "new". Since viewing Layla's "<a href="http://www.theletteredcottage.net/2009/09/our-handsome-new-transom.html">handsome transom</a>"at the Lettered Cottage, I have been brainstorming ideas on how to get some old house appeal into our newer one. Okay, so maybe it's not the true definition of a transom. No natural light. No cutting out the wall. No caulking and painting. No demolition took place in the installation of this window. So, I guess there are <i>some</i> positives.:)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7SlhT49UtYCD0EZHH8SLfEjeHPktx4onndMrDQCGiEOP0Rkfjt9BAZnvntqT0oqcNWe_JU720LFfl52-b80NE92MD4C2DmNM1yJMgdc03LcXTthDbxt9zVb6v7RABL6UWuGBoFxec5abD/s1600/DSC02983.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj7SlhT49UtYCD0EZHH8SLfEjeHPktx4onndMrDQCGiEOP0Rkfjt9BAZnvntqT0oqcNWe_JU720LFfl52-b80NE92MD4C2DmNM1yJMgdc03LcXTthDbxt9zVb6v7RABL6UWuGBoFxec5abD/s320/DSC02983.JPG" /></a><br />

</div>I purchased this window at a yard sale over 7 years ago. Ain't she pretty? At the time I thought it would look great hanging from the pergola.....problem was (is) that there was (is) no pergola. So, it made it's way into the attic. Since then, Dave has found his inner craftsman and can do amazing things with free wood. He made the frame over a weekend and I knew it would be the perfect addition to the laundry room. We brought it in and soon realized that it was not going to fit in the space. Luckily, I found something that did.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeCwvElVpHDN30dS2sLWDhZaw0p4NaIWnYEekTRyR4JxuRxVIUcL7iNrXJmhGnYXOCRVlaVQgUi6WegKVaADLnt5wQdgbkPbYPr3wV8R-Et88dsVkOpR39a7AhDaGoovClfe0RU4vqhMdO/s1600/DSC03007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeCwvElVpHDN30dS2sLWDhZaw0p4NaIWnYEekTRyR4JxuRxVIUcL7iNrXJmhGnYXOCRVlaVQgUi6WegKVaADLnt5wQdgbkPbYPr3wV8R-Et88dsVkOpR39a7AhDaGoovClfe0RU4vqhMdO/s320/DSC03007.JPG" /></a><br />
</div>Dave, always quick on his feet, suggested using it over the doorway to the office. I had a salvaged piece of gate hanging there that I was attached to, so I wasn't crazy about the idea....until he brought it in and held it over the doorway.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SuRyF4cr3MI/AAAAAAAAORQ/3SimCMyy0Eg/s1600/DSC03010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SuRyF4cr3MI/AAAAAAAAORQ/3SimCMyy0Eg/s320/DSC03010.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: small;">Dave had to hold it up for the "before" photo....I am still not in the habit of taking those! </span><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgDJ7xEK7xr3Eggqj5T-k4ZjnkBzIc7wOzfOXV79Kol8ApTB6kPY0tdvTuy88uruY01Kg89ttlSQmITspLoYS1ubSJY4DFXmylGkybgPymjlXM7MLophuRwLuWhTJHof8brcacW9c70pt7/s1600/DSC03012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgDJ7xEK7xr3Eggqj5T-k4ZjnkBzIc7wOzfOXV79Kol8ApTB6kPY0tdvTuy88uruY01Kg89ttlSQmITspLoYS1ubSJY4DFXmylGkybgPymjlXM7MLophuRwLuWhTJHof8brcacW9c70pt7/s320/DSC03012.JPG" /></a><br />
</div>Doesn't it look right at home? It fills the space perfectly and adds some great architectural detail to the room.<br />
The only problem is....you miss the great detail of the window itself because of the red wall behind it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SuRyKiYcg9I/AAAAAAAAORc/vRmUc-owhv4/s1600/DSC03015.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SuRyKiYcg9I/AAAAAAAAORc/vRmUc-owhv4/s320/DSC03015.JPG" /></a><br />
</div>The concensus around here is that I should paint the wall, an insert, the glass itself, <i>something</i> to highlight the detail. Any ideas? Suggestions? Tips? Have you done something like this before?<br />

It takes me two weeks to get used to him being around all the time and then two more weeks to adjust to his absence.<br />
This past August, I was whining and complaining about <strike>needing</strike> wanting new fabric for the drapes in our living room. I came home with the swatch I had gotten just that day and, lo and behold, it was the EXACT fabric I had envisioned for the room. Dave feigned interest in my plight....as per usual. I even showed him how they would coordinate PERFECTLY with the other fabric I planned on using for the Fall.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SuDZmDmAHGI/AAAAAAAAOF0/NMq_KUlBD7Q/s1600/DSC02194.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SuDZmDmAHGI/AAAAAAAAOF0/NMq_KUlBD7Q/s320/DSC02194.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SuDZqDE3bKI/AAAAAAAAOF4/OrmTNhs6w8k/s1600/DSC02197.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SuDZqDE3bKI/AAAAAAAAOF4/OrmTNhs6w8k/s320/DSC02197.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">The coveted fabric...plaid in top photo </span><br />
</div>I stopped talking about it, kind of, and instead put all of my mental energy into how I could raise the funds needed to purchase said fabric.<br />
A few days later, after a rough day of parenting and being sad and grumpy about his return to work, Dave surprised me with a gift. As I got into bed that night, I pulled back the covers to find 6 BEAUTIFUL YARDS of the beloved fabric. I think he was hoping for the reaction Debra Barone gives Ray when he starts vacuuming the drapes. <b> </b><br />
<b>Debra</b>: You are going to do the drapes? <br />
<b>Ray</b>: No, silly, the Humm Vac is going to do the drapes. I'm just going to take the credit!<br />
<i>(Ray starts vacuuming the drapes)</i><br />
<b>Debra</b>: I have never been more attracted to you in my entire life.<br />
Instead, I cried. <br />
How is it possible to teach the lesson of not rewarding bad behavior when I received such a gift? Thank God for Grace. Thank God for Dave. While I was treasuring and hoping the fabric would make me happy, it was the simple act of love and devotion on Dave's part that made me happy. I was astonished that he picked out the<i> right</i> fabric and the <i>right</i> amount. He <i>was</i> listening. He does <i>care</i> about the <strike>stupid</strike> small things in my life that may not affect him, but definitely affect me.<br />
So, while I write this, I am reminded of the husband who would buy me fabric because he knew it would make me happy. And, I wonder, what am I doing for him that is seemingly insignificant to me but means the world to him? I pray that I am showing him that <i>he</i> is the treasured thing in my life that I want to show and tell.<br />

</div>Rhoda at <a href="http://southernhospitalityblog.com/recipe-exchange-pasta-allamatriciana/">Southern Hospitality</a> is having a recipe party! I am a little late in getting this posted, but I thought I would share a new recipe tried just this week. And, you may have noticed that I didn't use Fettuccine.....so, you can use whatever pasta you have on hand.<br />
Cook 12 oz. of pasta according to package<br />
Melt 1 TBSP. butter in pan. Add 1 shallot, diced and cook until soft.<br />
Add 2/3 c. heavy cream to the pan. Next, add your 8 slices of prosciutto that has been cut into small pieces.<br />
Simmer for 3-4 minutes.<br />
Add 1 TBSP Lemon juice and zest. Stir in 1/2 c. Fresh Grated<b> Parmigiano-Reggiano</b>. Pour mixture over your pasta and you're good to go!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SuDHgEXr7YI/AAAAAAAAOE0/uDT8ZMVU5rA/s1600/DSC03069.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SuDHgEXr7YI/AAAAAAAAOE0/uDT8ZMVU5rA/s320/DSC03069.JPG" /></a><br />
</div>This recipe was so quick and easy....Great for a weeknight meal. Serve with a green salad and garlic bread...YUMMY!<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Can you believe the <span style="font-size: large;">TWO WEEKS </span>are up? The time has flown by....and I have to admit, I am a little glad it's over. My confession from this experience is that<span style="font-size: large;"> I LIED</span>. I actually don't like a deadline. The only way I like a deadline is when everything goes my way. Very realistic, don't you think? So, even though I cursed and cried my way through this project, I am <span style="font-size: large;">THRILLED</span> with the results!<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Just a reminder of what I started with......<br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsqmeffrmmI/AAAAAAAAM74/OroATBBqOec/s1600/DSC02566.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsqmeffrmmI/AAAAAAAAM74/OroATBBqOec/s320/DSC02566.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">Very drab, very boring back door. Cluttered shelf practically disappearing into the wall...AND, the biggest crime of all....NO ACCESSORIES!! How to change a boring door into one you LOVE: Add CHALKBOARD....and ask your very talented sister, Deanna, to paint sweet birds for you.<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgd4dhjA2Z6dXTjWYVQce_VHPIm9utSjmgsNmfPC8Nwnyoxg_-7Av3QcpyPHLmm4zKBMOu5vSCzpIgu9NOktvxT_NMl07tSsRblARrMyW_7yZnhSFyZeZPpgIGboQTJjL-lKHUFt92AEauM/s1600/DSC03001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgd4dhjA2Z6dXTjWYVQce_VHPIm9utSjmgsNmfPC8Nwnyoxg_-7Av3QcpyPHLmm4zKBMOu5vSCzpIgu9NOktvxT_NMl07tSsRblARrMyW_7yZnhSFyZeZPpgIGboQTJjL-lKHUFt92AEauM/s320/DSC03001.JPG" /></a><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Deanna used acrylic craft paint to fill in the pencil drawing she did first. I think it took her all of ten minutes. Yes, it's ridiculous, really. The girl's got talent. After she painted, I distressed them with fine sandpaper. I love their faded look!<br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDEw_Ajiuky9Zn72oo6xRVg3WPPU9yocXEr2yMp0wAowYQ_jLKcOCf7YV0yic37YlWYhDESaKzqsuLk1NBKyA2I0Mx_aLCDjSUb5q6EWMhuVQk90ehSUkhkhj0Q9HZoqsWXu927XDWFBdk/s1600/DSC02997.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDEw_Ajiuky9Zn72oo6xRVg3WPPU9yocXEr2yMp0wAowYQ_jLKcOCf7YV0yic37YlWYhDESaKzqsuLk1NBKyA2I0Mx_aLCDjSUb5q6EWMhuVQk90ehSUkhkhj0Q9HZoqsWXu927XDWFBdk/s320/DSC02997.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Then, if you're like me and don't go near the power tools, you ask your <strike>husband</strike> carpenter (AKA Dave) to install trim. <br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"> <a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/StvN-dqYF0I/AAAAAAAAN04/8ckKbMCV7Ms/s1600/DSC02995.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/StvN-dqYF0I/AAAAAAAAN04/8ckKbMCV7Ms/s320/DSC02995.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">And, of course, Dave will run into the garage and whip out his OWN trim from some random pieces of wood on the side of the house. Hopefully, with any luck, you will end up with something like this....<br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxkSqvuUxqGDzdBpvHYfRYy_JUJtOMgUq0UI37HM55kc1whhay_99GawJXaAXH2ZJG9rQTJzvEet8eyIZo3ety76eqEqzY6dj2ePreMTyZS_FVBXBE6yilPtU1QcuDTYFGTGw56WIkhaoZ/s1600/DSC03030.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxkSqvuUxqGDzdBpvHYfRYy_JUJtOMgUq0UI37HM55kc1whhay_99GawJXaAXH2ZJG9rQTJzvEet8eyIZo3ety76eqEqzY6dj2ePreMTyZS_FVBXBE6yilPtU1QcuDTYFGTGw56WIkhaoZ/s320/DSC03030.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> From DRAB to FAB! This is probably my favorite addition being that I see this from the hall. I LOVE how the trim changes the door and the black chalkboard against the cream. (FYI: wall color MARTHA STEWART: Everyday Green, trim color MARTHA STEWART: Butter White) <br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The disappearing shelf came alive with a coat of flat black spray paint. I had originally planned on re-painting the walls, but after doing the shelf in black, I decided the green walls looked perfect with it. I added the #'s on the pegs with a paint pen. <a href="http://doubledelightdesigns.blogspot.com/2009/10/alright-god-you-got-me.html">Sweet bunny </a>in his place of honor:) The bottle was <a href="http://thriftydecorchick.blogspot.com/2009/03/using-ballard-as-inspiration-to-make-my.html">wrapped with jute</a>, thanks to Sarah@ThriftyDecorChick. I added a simple fleur de lis to coordinate with the art work I added on another wall.<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I used a wood frame from the closet and applied more of the same flat black. A little distressing and you've got yourself a new frame for your burlap work of ART. The burlap was wrapped around the existing cardboard backing just like in the <a href="http://doubledelightdesigns.blogspot.com/2009/10/they-are-yellow-forms-composed-of.html">Fancy Pear</a> project. I used a stencil and colored in the design with a black SHARPIE....I know it's genius. Unfortunately I can't take the credit for it and I can't thank the person who really is the genius. So, if you know the blog where she made burlap place mats and used a SHARPIE, be sure to let me know!<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This is the project that the glass broke just after I cleaned it up real nice and was trying to get it back in the frame. Dave (God love him) said he liked it better with the texture of the burlap and blah, blah, blah....I have made my peace with it nevertheless. I was thinking of taking it apart and adding cork board so I could use it as a memo board. Any thoughts?<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Candlestick revamped from the thrift store and painted flat black. Dave tied these candles together and they were set out on our wedding night with many more. I love having a touch of the sentimental....<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Next up, the CABINETS..... <br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"> <a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsqmdAvF9vI/AAAAAAAAM70/rXnTw0WP8rs/s1600/DSC02565.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsqmdAvF9vI/AAAAAAAAM70/rXnTw0WP8rs/s320/DSC02565.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Now, if you recall, I was attempting to do the makeover for next to nothing. So, the first thing I did was take inventory of the supplies I had on hand. I had two quarts of black paint; one semi-gloss and one satin. Because I had painted my other cabinets with semi-gloss, that is what I chose to use for these. IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING BLACK FOR YOUR CABINETS, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND USING SATIN. This is just my humble opinion. The cabinets still turned out great, but the look I was after (not quite so shiny) would have been achieved better with a satin finish. <br />

It's okay...<a href="http://nestingplacenc.blogspot.com/">it doesn't have to be perfect to be beautiful</a>. And, don't get me wrong....You can't go wrong with black bead board. Am I right or am I right?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/StvN4DwBzUI/AAAAAAAAN0o/9bvkyCOwyUk/s1600/DSC02987.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/StvN4DwBzUI/AAAAAAAAN0o/9bvkyCOwyUk/s320/DSC02987.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Dave added bead board by cutting out the insert and nailing it to the back. That way we preserved the design at the top. This added instant character to builder-grade cabinets with very little effort on my part. (Looking beat down and pathetic usually does the trick...)<br />

</div><div style="text-align: left;">The window is a <a href="http://nestingplacenc.blogspot.com/2008/01/window-mistreatment-101.html">mistreated</a> using just one yard of fabric. Pastoral toile....so pretty. I even have enough for two pillows on the couch as well. I added another bamboo roman shade ( I have them in almost every other room of the house) I really wanted to play up the rich browns and blacks against the pale color of the green.<br />

</div>I added a frame underneath the cabinets that was in the abyss of the guest room closet as well. It was dark green and had a white matte. I tea-stained the matte, added postcards given to us from my mother-in-law, and again hit the frame with paint. The glass stayed intact:)<br />

Most of the postcards had a postmark of 1915....To think they were just piled in the hope chest! Now <strike>we</strike> I can appreciate them every time I do a load:)<br />

My sis, Kara, took my lovely daughter for a two-night sleepover this weekend and, not only did we get projects done...we got to spend some much needed ALONE time together. My hubby, Dave, is pretty handy and we rarely work out in the garage on projects together because one of us is usually parenting. This weekend, however, we turned up the Michael Buble and got our PAINT on! This is what the garage looked like......<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The humidity has been oppressive these last few days.....We just are not used to that in the San Joaquin Valley! So, not the most ideal weather conditions for painting projects, but we made it work. I even managed to keep my cool when Dave used the saw right next to my freshly painted cabinet doors....Yes, that's right. They were covered in speckly dust and I ended up sanding them down and applying a new coat. Maybe there are more reasons why we don't work in the garage together....hmmm..... <br />
</div>Most of the projects were for the laundry room, but I will reveal the rest next week! Don't forget to check back on Tuesday for the official Before and After's of the <a href="http://theinspiredroom.net/2009/10/05/procrastinator-proclamations-the-before-photos/">Procrastinator's Party</a>!Tamerahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05334409581656523382noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7496650627359144044.post-10091021355177210852009-10-14T14:34:00.000-07:002009-10-16T19:35:24.532-07:00Fancy Pears<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEV2glZ0GfGWCQ6WWasfSx2Lt6K-cyK859nlleMC8No6lkN6f_Bs-qIc4s6u9atnQCroFUYliLZYlfem6TRlAwF06Yw1gTlX2crnc5iEiQdIGdizoAgrOy2wXkplFFIgm1d8SOeKEHknd2/s1600/DSC02733.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEV2glZ0GfGWCQ6WWasfSx2Lt6K-cyK859nlleMC8No6lkN6f_Bs-qIc4s6u9atnQCroFUYliLZYlfem6TRlAwF06Yw1gTlX2crnc5iEiQdIGdizoAgrOy2wXkplFFIgm1d8SOeKEHknd2/s320/DSC02733.JPG" /></a><br />

</div><div style="text-align: left;"> (Oh, and I picked up that cute little pedestal at a thrift store for just $2! I love that almost as much as the pears!) I came across <a href="http://shanty2chic.blogspot.com/2009/09/whitneys-frugal-fall-centerpiece.html">this project</a> while perusing the blog <a href="http://shanty2chic.blogspot.com/">Shanty2Chic</a>.<br />

</div><div style="text-align: left;"> I loved the idea and so, here is my interpretation.<br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;"> I first started with an old frame that I had in my closet FOREVER. It was yard sale find for $2 and was originally white. It got a couple coats of Flat Black spray paint and then I rubbed it down with some brown craft paint. Next, I cut my burlap to wrap around the cardboard backing in the frame and secured it with hot glue.<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjp3rbmyqrlQsJU5uVj7bR0AZbkm8dY-4xxBGgkMPkh17Qnh4JRgpYKmYx5fjBv34LArime0_0vJbE_iETdortULp_vKH29nHn61y1Qc6decGLLL_Cj4lNsYha8lqbfT2hH6GuvTGTIjwMD/s1600/DSC02487.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjp3rbmyqrlQsJU5uVj7bR0AZbkm8dY-4xxBGgkMPkh17Qnh4JRgpYKmYx5fjBv34LArime0_0vJbE_iETdortULp_vKH29nHn61y1Qc6decGLLL_Cj4lNsYha8lqbfT2hH6GuvTGTIjwMD/s320/DSC02487.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/StY_7oqiK7I/AAAAAAAANjU/g5wKAAWL8tQ/s1600/DSC02489.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/StY_7oqiK7I/AAAAAAAANjU/g5wKAAWL8tQ/s320/DSC02489.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Once you have it all glued, you're ready to put the frame back together.<br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/StY_90WGCsI/AAAAAAAANjY/rcw_0fYMi-Q/s1600/DSC02490.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/StY_90WGCsI/AAAAAAAANjY/rcw_0fYMi-Q/s320/DSC02490.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">For the candlesticks, I used two that I had on hand and then went to the DAV (Disabled American Vets) Thrift Store. I wanted more height variation and so I looked for shapes that I liked as well as tall and short. I gave them all a good 1, 2,3,and even 4 coats of Flat Black.<br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiT04TAbzZXYKka-uHBPBn1CVk-lPnVvUxgVO1zMM8wWw_IwNZ1mp_oRsVCg6Muaz_P13kfPApvfRaZ1RX63LsNXcET8dmM-RxfKY6oc8TMdUOX2k-kOaLaVY-uBmBhIQWersVHMqjghHiD/s1600/DSC02611.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiT04TAbzZXYKka-uHBPBn1CVk-lPnVvUxgVO1zMM8wWw_IwNZ1mp_oRsVCg6Muaz_P13kfPApvfRaZ1RX63LsNXcET8dmM-RxfKY6oc8TMdUOX2k-kOaLaVY-uBmBhIQWersVHMqjghHiD/s320/DSC02611.JPG" /></a><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">**The pears have since reached their expiration date and have been made into to some tasty muffins. So, the centerpiece is adorned with mini white pumpkins now.<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"> Just as cute but, I am thinking of adding a little shimmer and shine to the pumpkins with some gold and burnt umber craft paint....just in the grooves, you know? Can't just leave well enough alone....<br />

You Got Me.....I went to 5 stores on Saturday looking for the perfect rug and window treatment for the laundry room. I was not happy when I left the house and, after finding that none of the stores had what I wanted, I returned with an even more dismal outlook. That night I worked on some more projects and the glass in my DIY framed art broke just as I was trying to put it back. The paint I had used earlier that day came out too shiny and I was crying about the unfairness of it all. Poor me.<br />
I mentioned yesterday that I picked up a little something at the Antique Fair.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsfFyAJVVouOE-xYXTlJBllE6hF71DlEsZHW_djcRt3_ryGHRyNB3WjaXBXNFBgW90KIhAMHLKSyt6vr_NrJto_JThqoLprKWvIzV0dhJjIX58H5LLCowlUohNB7aeW5o6uFjGkZyvwdS4/s1600/DSC02915.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsfFyAJVVouOE-xYXTlJBllE6hF71DlEsZHW_djcRt3_ryGHRyNB3WjaXBXNFBgW90KIhAMHLKSyt6vr_NrJto_JThqoLprKWvIzV0dhJjIX58H5LLCowlUohNB7aeW5o6uFjGkZyvwdS4/s320/DSC02915.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The woman who sold it to me said she thought it was done by Durer. It had a mark on it and I thought it was interesting and I would look it up later.<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/StNKkEReSKI/AAAAAAAANSw/iiZWzwRD1BI/s1600/DSC02918.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/StNKkEReSKI/AAAAAAAANSw/iiZWzwRD1BI/s320/DSC02918.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">That night I was reading a study in the book of Philippians. The whole content is focused on putting others before yourself. "In humility consider others better than yourselves." (Philippians 2:3) Geez, God. I have been hearing this over and over for the past two weeks. I really <i>want</i> to put others first.....just let me get those cabinet doors painted. Oh, and I have some cleaning to do....and, of course, my blog. Can't forget about that. Then I will have time for others.<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The story is told of two young artists, Albrecht Durer and Franz Knigstein who hoped to obtain success, yet both were so poor that they could not go to school to study art. They decided to draw lots and the one would study while the other worked to support the both of them. Then when the one who had been in school made enough money from the sale of paintings to support the two of them, the other would stop working and go to school.<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Durer was the one who was to have the first opportunity to study, while Knigstein began working at hard labor. Durer sold several pictures and now it was the other man's turn to study painting. Sadly he found that his fingers had become so stiff and gnarled from his heavy labor that he could never work with an artist's brush. Therefore, Knigstein resigned himself to the fact that he would have to give up all his artisitic dreams, yet was not embittered.<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Shortly after Knigstein's discovery, his friend, Durer, found him kneeling by his bed with his hands uplifted in prayer. The artist heard Knigstein unselfishly praying for the continued success of Durer, since he himself could never be an artist.<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="http://www2.elca.org/Scriptlib/CO/questions/tlsImage.asp?a=26" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://www2.elca.org/Scriptlib/CO/questions/tlsImage.asp?a=26" width="178" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Durer sketched the expressive hands of his friend and later completed the now famous painting known as the "Praying Hands". <br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Oh, dear. A clear answer to what it means to put others first. I have a habit of doing just the opposite. Especially at the expense of my family. So, all that to say....<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">God knew just what I needed.....and it came in the form of a bunny.<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/StNKhGc92yI/AAAAAAAANSo/O6lKnlAqrWo/s1600/DSC02913.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/StNKhGc92yI/AAAAAAAANSo/O6lKnlAqrWo/s320/DSC02913.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">"Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed...continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is GOD who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose." (Philippians 2:12-1)<br />

</div>After my week of DIY mishaps, (which I am sure I will love to write all about when we share our stories from the Procrastinator's Party) I needed a good dose of inspiration. So my sister, Deanna, and I hit the streets of Old Town for their bi-annual Antique Fair.<br />
Here are a few bits and baubles to spark some inspiration in you as well.....<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/StKoDF72d1I/AAAAAAAANQM/RX-c69mdJzw/s1600/DSC02862.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/StKoDF72d1I/AAAAAAAANQM/RX-c69mdJzw/s320/DSC02862.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;">Deanna purchased one of these lovely jars for a mere $7 to hold her pens and pencils.</span><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRnlLR2QRZT_Jte9f2YZkqeuK2-faboAGWAqu0_MACowkhDBtrhJ-k0mN8hI1LBCFnlgm93D4VEp4M_OO0E7HUmSkigxNYLAhuPtvnRuTETK7a4ardvm71ea2BYc08tgsVPpJekXSN03ic/s1600/DSC02863.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRnlLR2QRZT_Jte9f2YZkqeuK2-faboAGWAqu0_MACowkhDBtrhJ-k0mN8hI1LBCFnlgm93D4VEp4M_OO0E7HUmSkigxNYLAhuPtvnRuTETK7a4ardvm71ea2BYc08tgsVPpJekXSN03ic/s320/DSC02863.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;">So pretty and shiny...as my daughter would say.</span><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;">My latest obsession....old amber colored glass detergent bottles.</span><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: small;">Sorry for the poor quality....</span><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">The last photo is a print of a rabbit. I am not usually one to go gaga over bunnies, but I loved the sepia toned print and vintage look he had. It was close to the end of the day and I was able to nab him for $15! I thought it was a great deal and he is being added to the laundry room make over....<br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">We stopped by a yard sale on our way and I picked this set up for $5. I thought it would go nicely on the hutch for the Autumn season, but now don't know if I likey so much.....Any thoughts?<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/StKrRkl5NvI/AAAAAAAANRw/umpePGk-CCg/s1600/DSC02886.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/StKrRkl5NvI/AAAAAAAANRw/umpePGk-CCg/s320/DSC02886.JPG" /></a><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Of course, my tea savvy daughter was already pouring herself some "tea" and serving me as well, so I guess it's not a total loss:) Now, off to start a new week and, hopefully, get that much closer to a completed laundry room. Wish me luck!<br />

</div>So, what's the worst thing that can happen after you sign yourself up for the <a href="http://doubledelightdesigns.blogspot.com/2009/10/procrastinators-party.html">Procrastinator's Party</a>? That's right. Sickness decides to pay you a visit and stay for awhile. Laid up and stuffed up. Not much has taken place in the room I should be working on. However, I wanted to share some Fall planting tips with you instead.<br />
Fall has finally graced us with her presence and that means I get to fill my planters with ornamental cabbage. One of them being the mailbox planter. I was going to line it from one end to the other with the cabbage, but then found this bright, cheery, yellow sedum that TRAILS.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/Ss5EDmj3V8I/AAAAAAAAND8/xX5sHp05v5Q/s1600/DSC02805.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/Ss5EDmj3V8I/AAAAAAAAND8/xX5sHp05v5Q/s320/DSC02805.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I wanted to get more bang for my buck and, so, I decided to buy the 6-pack of cabbage instead of the 4-inch pots. Last Fall I purchased the cabbage in 1-gallon containers to plant them in my window box. With that size you get instant color and fullness. The mailbox was too small for that size and with the 6-pk. I was able to fill the mailbox and put two in the window box.<br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/Ss5FdIW9nzI/AAAAAAAANFA/bxYZx595aOk/s1600/DSC00870.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/Ss5FdIW9nzI/AAAAAAAANFA/bxYZx595aOk/s320/DSC00870.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHyAUNEZNgQCIZwUyzbglmC2o52J98FbIqoh3O_FkoY7QHvB9v8d30L7LAlZx0j0Ez5uWHdb0FyqIVkhD0RXKQmt8Ug8uIheEbklg_JlwZlF_r3aDIaiMAReoMkTv7ggR1t-xOLfCHyEDE/s1600/DSC00872.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgHyAUNEZNgQCIZwUyzbglmC2o52J98FbIqoh3O_FkoY7QHvB9v8d30L7LAlZx0j0Ez5uWHdb0FyqIVkhD0RXKQmt8Ug8uIheEbklg_JlwZlF_r3aDIaiMAReoMkTv7ggR1t-xOLfCHyEDE/s320/DSC00872.JPG" /></a><br />
</div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">If you're impatient like me, you want the lush look as soon as you plant. To get the lush foliage a bit quicker, all you need to do is cross the plants at the root ball when you plant them.<br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/Ss5EHqIIG0I/AAAAAAAANEE/oQ_Jt3USS1U/s1600/DSC02807.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/Ss5EHqIIG0I/AAAAAAAANEE/oQ_Jt3USS1U/s320/DSC02807.JPG" /></a><br />
</div>They should look something like this when you have them in the container and are ready to replace the soil around them. This way the large heads of the cabbage will be bursting forth with pinky frilliness. I can't wait to see what they do by next month!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/Ss5EPRGf4-I/AAAAAAAANEY/O4fQI9sHYm0/s1600/DSC02811.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/Ss5EPRGf4-I/AAAAAAAANEY/O4fQI9sHYm0/s320/DSC02811.JPG" /></a><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I am so excited about this party I can hardly contain myself! For one thing, I LOVE a good party. For two....I love a deadline! Yes, that's right. A DEADLINE. Be it hosting a party in your own home, having the relatives that you never see suddenly show up for a visit, or just your own personal one. I, for one, struggle with imposing the deadlines on myself, but love it when circumstances impose them on me. When I have a deadline, or a goal, to work towards, I am one happy camper. Because at the end of it only YOU are the most proud of your HARD WORK.<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">So, when I stumbled across Melissa's <a href="http://theinspiredroom.net/2009/10/05/procrastinator-proclamations-the-before-photos/">post</a> at the <a href="http://theinspiredroom.net/">Inspired Room</a>, my wheels began a-turnin'. Just what could I get done that I have been putting off? It didn't take long for me to go straight to the laundry room. It is one of those rooms that you WORK in, WALK through, and, frankly, don't want to spend too much time in. This summer I surprised a dear friend of mine by making over her laundry room. Of course, this only led to laundry room envy.<br />

</div>I don't have any BEFORE photos of it...and, oh, how I wish I did! Just imagine white walls, oak cabinets, and florescent lighting.<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Oh, dear. It's worse than I thought. What am I signing myself up for?! Deep breaths.....I have TWO WEEKS people. Two weeks to get this puppy looking shiny and new. And, of course, it's all about accountability. You know I can't put this out there without some serious ribbing if I leave it incomplete. <br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">So, I've got BIG plans for this tiny little space. How I would love the counter top space or even a utility sink in here....it is not to be, though, so I will work with what I have. Oh, and BTW, I am going to try and do this for next to nothing. Can we do it? Yes, we can!!<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">As an added bonus, I would love those of you who are following this blog but are not blogging, to join me on this adventure. Send me your BEFORE and AFTER photos of a project you are going to tackle between the days of October 6-20 and I will showcase your efforts here at the end of the TWO WEEKS. Just because you're not blogging doesn't mean you can't join in on the fun! Check out <a href="http://theinspiredroom.net/">The Inspired Room</a> for ideas on WHAT project to do. It's an amazing blog that has, well, lots of inspiration.<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Okay, who's with me? Come October 20th lay your paint brushes down, unplug your staple guns, and send me those AFTER photos!<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Can't wait to share in the joy of a finished project with you all! <br />

</div>I hosted my First Ever Annual Swap this past Saturday and, Boy Howdy, did we have fun! We were 18 altogether and my lil ol' house stood up to the test just fine. Didn't even bat an eyelash. We dispersed the goods between two rooms where I had tables set up. I followed the steps that The Nester laid out <a href="http://nestingplacenc.blogspot.com/2009/08/how-to-have-swap-meet.html">here</a> and asked that everyone contribute an appetizer OR dessert to share. Each person brought 2-3 items to swap(or more if they wanted it GONE!) <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SslrXfyQTWI/AAAAAAAAM3c/vNsBWxzu3Ig/s1600/DSC02828.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SslrXfyQTWI/AAAAAAAAM3c/vNsBWxzu3Ig/s320/DSC02828.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">Those pretty toile boxes looked right at home in their surroundings and, so, are mine now:)</span><br />
</div>We drew numbers and went through the tables in groups of four at a time. There was some nail-biting and "OH! I wanted that!" exclamations, but we all left with things that we could use in our homes. We had TWO organized rounds. So, after the first round of going in order, we all went again but started from the middle. (i.e. numbers 9-12 started the 2nd round)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SslresZq95I/AAAAAAAAM4g/JwPgbHEy_CQ/s1600/DSC02834.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SslresZq95I/AAAAAAAAM4g/JwPgbHEy_CQ/s320/DSC02834.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">The ladies patiently waiting for their turns again</span>.<span style="font-size: x-small;">(oh...and changing dirty diapers:):)</span><br />
</div>This way we all got to go through twice and make it as fair as possible. Whatever was left at the end was up for grabs and the rest we packed into my car and donated. I am already planning when I can host another one and trying to get others to host one so I can come to theirs! The highlights of the day were:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/Sslrj8Rwd7I/AAAAAAAAM34/SyzLL6eqd1Q/s1600/DSC02837.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/Sslrj8Rwd7I/AAAAAAAAM34/SyzLL6eqd1Q/s320/DSC02837.JPG" /></a><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">Jennifer and Stacy...don't hate me! It's the only photo I had of the outdoors:)</span><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Seeing friends I had not seen in years! Okay, not my sister, but old friends from high school! It was so fun to have such a mix of people...those from the good ol' days and new friends too.<br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;"> <span style="font-size: x-small;">This photo doesn't do it justice...ladies know how to bring the food!</span><br />
</div>THE FOOD! Amy's pasta salad was the hit of the party... I wish I had a close up so you could see the sun-dried tomatoes and stuffed green olives. Yummy!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SslrgLURMJI/AAAAAAAAM3w/vs75mqwSqJ4/s1600/DSC02835.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SslrgLURMJI/AAAAAAAAM3w/vs75mqwSqJ4/s320/DSC02835.JPG" /></a><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <span style="font-size: x-small;">Stacy and Helena....so glad Helena got the duvet and shams I had for swapping!</span><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Leaving with decor you can use in your house that you swapped for FREE! I loved the fact that we had so many women from different age groups and decorating styles and still everyone went home happy...either that or they were lying to me;) Either way I HIGHLY recommend hosting your own swap. I was always a big fan of in-home parties and tried to host one every Fall. With a swap, you have zero pressure to buy anything and you get the gift of giving something you no longer had a use for, but someone else certainly does!<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">**Being the host I completely dropped the ball on getting photos of everyone....bummer. So, next swap I will put someone else in charge of that:)<br />

</div>It's Friday...and that means a Show & Tell party over at Cindy's <a href="http://romantichome.blogspot.com/">Romantic Home</a>! I have been working on something and I just love the way it turned out! I have yet to find the perfect spot for it, though, so any suggestions would be welcome!<br />
I absolutely fell in love with this new piece from<a href="http://www.potterybarn.com/"> Pottery Barn</a> and I am convinced that my husband could duplicate for me....but, alas, he is up to his eyeballs in homework. I will have to wait until vacation time:)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.potterybarn.com/pbimgs/rk/images/dp/products/200938/0009/img56m.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="179" src="http://www.potterybarn.com/pbimgs/rk/images/dp/products/200938/0009/img56m.jpg" width="200" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">These would be perfect in our office! Without the real thing, I got to thinking about what I did have. The Mr. has had an old cubby of his own since before we were married. It was one of those things that stayed hidden in the recesses of the closet. Until one day....inspiration struck.<br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNP1Svxt8TOIndkw1JAIAiQjJIU2q4c4XDZRXLzyyithphVK0u-0MhXhrIrKtl_iQtxYn-235nhNVxfR3wn2MtvwlWydsGSDAtni-ZbxuPvr4tYJ9Ehcx9UYSvxYv_hJ8bcUr4Bv9nOgAz/s1600/DSC02633.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNP1Svxt8TOIndkw1JAIAiQjJIU2q4c4XDZRXLzyyithphVK0u-0MhXhrIrKtl_iQtxYn-235nhNVxfR3wn2MtvwlWydsGSDAtni-ZbxuPvr4tYJ9Ehcx9UYSvxYv_hJ8bcUr4Bv9nOgAz/s320/DSC02633.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;">The wood was kind of faded and it had potential, but no character......yet. Out to the garage we went and little cubby got a makeover with some Dark Walnut stain.<br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsYLLn4BXqI/AAAAAAAAMyE/WXoXaQiRUCE/s1600/DSC02748.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsYLLn4BXqI/AAAAAAAAMyE/WXoXaQiRUCE/s320/DSC02748.JPG" /></a><br />
</div>Ahhh, so warm and pretty. I have not added numbers to anything and, so, I took this opportunity to try my hand at it. Sorry no pictures of the process, but all I did was use a simple stencil that I cut each # from and taped to the center of each drawer. Here is the result:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsYIQ_4hJAI/AAAAAAAAMxs/Lo498mKPI0M/s1600/DSC02749.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsYIQ_4hJAI/AAAAAAAAMxs/Lo498mKPI0M/s320/DSC02749.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I used plain ol' acrylic paints and a sponge brush. When I removed the stencil, the paint was a little splotchy. I decided I wanted more of an aged look and rubbed some sandpaper lightly over the #'s and then went back over it with my stain.<br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"> <a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsYMr6Xo_VI/AAAAAAAAMyM/bIjuMsI0Nt4/s1600/DSC02777.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsYMr6Xo_VI/AAAAAAAAMyM/bIjuMsI0Nt4/s320/DSC02777.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsYIUdWrmQI/AAAAAAAAMx0/yazUxZdO67E/s1600/DSC02773.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsYIUdWrmQI/AAAAAAAAMx0/yazUxZdO67E/s320/DSC02773.JPG" /></a><br />

</div>You can't go wrong with a bunch of alstromeria (Peruvian Lily). I found mine at Trader Joe's for 3.99 and was able to get two arrangements out of 10 stems. I tried a new addition and took cuttings from a ligustrum (or Privet) that I have trained as a standard. Don't know how they will do inside, but thought I would give it a try.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsUWs3-5-oI/AAAAAAAAMvg/wqVDXUSX2C0/s1600/DSC02766.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsUWs3-5-oI/AAAAAAAAMvg/wqVDXUSX2C0/s320/DSC02766.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I love the green "berries", but they significantly weighed the stem down, so I thinned them out before adding them to the arrangement. <br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsUWvS5FrqI/AAAAAAAAMvo/urqN29ggCi0/s1600/DSC02767.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsUWvS5FrqI/AAAAAAAAMvo/urqN29ggCi0/s320/DSC02767.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Here was the result. Ahhhh......alstroemeria. See? You can't go wrong with it! I bought the bottle from the Goodwill and loved the look of the skinny little neck on a large bottom. I like them chunky:)<br />

</div><div style="text-align: left;">I have been asked this question frequently since starting my blog.....especially when I sent an email "inviting" friends and family to follow me, unabashedly, I might add. "What does it mean to follow your blog?" My answer was simple. It shows your interest. If you have no interest in what I am blogging about, then it shows you really love me and want to support me in my efforts. I am not picky about the category in which you fall.<br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">I came across a blogger named Dominic who wrote about it perfectly on his<a href="http://domburf.blogspot.com/2009/07/following-blog.html"> blog</a>. Here it is in his own words:<br />
</div><blockquote style="color: #134f5c; font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;">Practically every blog, including this one, can be followed. What exactly does this mean? Simply put, following a blog shows the blog author that you have expressed an interest in the content of their blog. It also lets other readers, be they casual readers, or followers, know that they have an interest in it.<br />
</blockquote> More helpful tips from Dominic:<br />
<blockquote style="font-family: Georgia,"Times New Roman",serif;"><blockquote><span style="color: #134f5c;">So if you come across a blog that interests you, be sure to follow it. It lets the blog author know that what they are writing about is considered interesting by other people, and that you value their efforts. I would also encourage people to leave comments on blogs.</span><br />
</blockquote></blockquote>So true! I love, love, love to receive your comments, suggestions, tips, etc.... <br />

</div>I love Autumn. Unfortunately the weather here is not making it conducive to bringing out the brown velvet throws and the pumpkins would probably rot on the front porch....On a brighter note: Fake lasts forever and looks great framed.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsEvvK1h3QI/AAAAAAAAMjE/lhlNijdzBGs/s1600/DSC02623.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsEvvK1h3QI/AAAAAAAAMjE/lhlNijdzBGs/s320/DSC02623.JPG" /></a><br />
</div>Meet the Pears. They started out as worn out ornaments from Christmas' past. To create your own lovely framed piece of Autumn, simply follow the steps below. Sarah@Thrifty Decor Chick did a version of this <a href="http://thriftydecorchick.blogspot.com/2009/06/one-dollar-kitchen-decor.html">here</a>.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL7DsAtLd1ZUvxfcJNJCmVZJTVCeQPu8dyQSdupFs7nvVwzD39DWLvRBBvH_A5F1y2GJdWjyEngPE0kAPx2eArVJMyqFRYXg94UhjsnHhfQuIY7gw26cBqyH_UC4zbQYs5smOJGVjnRXge/s1600/DSC00397.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhL7DsAtLd1ZUvxfcJNJCmVZJTVCeQPu8dyQSdupFs7nvVwzD39DWLvRBBvH_A5F1y2GJdWjyEngPE0kAPx2eArVJMyqFRYXg94UhjsnHhfQuIY7gw26cBqyH_UC4zbQYs5smOJGVjnRXge/s320/DSC00397.JPG" /></a><br />
</div>SO cute on plates! Thank you for the inspiration! Gotta love pears...whoever said there was anything wrong with being pear-shaped never saw their true potential.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsEveZ3XRrI/AAAAAAAAMic/_r88LpNkHUQ/s1600/DSC02606.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsEveZ3XRrI/AAAAAAAAMic/_r88LpNkHUQ/s320/DSC02606.JPG" /></a><br />
</div>Gather your supplies. I used wrapping paper in rich, Autumn hues that I purchased at one of my favorite home and garden shops in Cambria, CA. I grabbed some acrylic paints in green, brown, and gold, my frame (just one I had on hand), glue, and paint brushes.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsEvgbLEevI/AAAAAAAAMig/95s9JlIGCfM/s1600/DSC02607.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsEvgbLEevI/AAAAAAAAMig/95s9JlIGCfM/s320/DSC02607.JPG" /></a><br />
</div>I mixed two shades of green to use as my base coat. Forest Moss and Italian Sage.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFapEtJ5da97CPa9yXaGa6IAXEjEHexsEWgDZ_mT38eZqbmqXB0NxfODfPOoS0SNd2EqZpDmg_TbEbrUgHTjxHt764ou1luo_H7e3C8e9A7LL3taZGpzpmFg8tspmKBLFAe1-2Sa4R3wRF/s1600/DSC02608.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFapEtJ5da97CPa9yXaGa6IAXEjEHexsEWgDZ_mT38eZqbmqXB0NxfODfPOoS0SNd2EqZpDmg_TbEbrUgHTjxHt764ou1luo_H7e3C8e9A7LL3taZGpzpmFg8tspmKBLFAe1-2Sa4R3wRF/s320/DSC02608.JPG" /></a><br />
</div>Once the first coat is dry, you can apply a coat of brown. I mixed Burnt Umber with Gold.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsEvjAzqnuI/AAAAAAAAMio/4YgJHpeJDWU/s1600/DSC02609.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsEvjAzqnuI/AAAAAAAAMio/4YgJHpeJDWU/s320/DSC02609.JPG" /></a><br />
</div>I loved the way the ornaments picked up the dents and dings mimicking a true Bartlett! Set your pears aside to dry and cut your paper for the background. Brush white glue onto the surface you wish to attach your paper to.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsEvk4Pxz7I/AAAAAAAAMis/jxhsjNgqb_E/s1600/DSC02614.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsEvk4Pxz7I/AAAAAAAAMis/jxhsjNgqb_E/s320/DSC02614.JPG" /></a><br />
</div>Once you smooth your paper down, use a nail file to rub over the perimeter of the frame to get off the excess paper.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsEvmo-kk4I/AAAAAAAAMiw/FL7o8g11MNs/s1600/DSC02615.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsEvmo-kk4I/AAAAAAAAMiw/FL7o8g11MNs/s320/DSC02615.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsEvoUjqbnI/AAAAAAAAMi0/T0rZkZN30Qo/s1600/DSC02616.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsEvoUjqbnI/AAAAAAAAMi0/T0rZkZN30Qo/s320/DSC02616.JPG" /></a><br />
</div>The paper would even be lovely framed on it's own......so very pretty. Oh, yeah and I painted the frame flat black and rubbed the same mix of Gold and Burnt Umber over the top. All you need is a hot glue gun and you're ready to add the finishing touch.<br />

</div>Need a good start to the week? Scones may be your answer. Nothing quite compares to the fluffy, yet dense, sweetly, cinnamon-sugared bliss of a really good scone. I have held this recipe like a prized possession, but I want to share the joy and so, I am passing it down to you. Beware, though, they truly are crowd-pleasers:)<br />
<br />
INGREDIENTS:<br />
2 c. flour<br />
1/3 c. sugar<br />
1 TBSP. baking powder<br />
1/2 tsp. salt<br />
Mix together in large mixing bowl, then cut in:<br />
6 TBSP. cold unsalted butter, cut into pieces<br />
Stir in addition of choice:<br />
1/2 c. chocolate chips or blueberries (I have used dried and frozen) or raisins or cranberries, etc.<br />
Add:<br />
1 egg<br />
1/2 c. heavy whipping cream<br />
Stir together til combined, then knead into a ball of dough.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsAyY2g33CI/AAAAAAAAMbk/YOuUZpQ-ph8/s1600/DSC02575.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsAyY2g33CI/AAAAAAAAMbk/YOuUZpQ-ph8/s320/DSC02575.JPG" /></a><br />
</div>Once you have your dough, spray cooking spray in the bottom of an 8-inch cake pan. You will be able to push the dough in the bottom and turn onto a floured surface for cutting.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsAybDks1kI/AAAAAAAAMbo/IZIJy27KHM0/s1600/DSC02576.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsAybDks1kI/AAAAAAAAMbo/IZIJy27KHM0/s320/DSC02576.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsAye_j36fI/AAAAAAAAMbw/Ao33XId4-SU/s1600/DSC02578.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsAye_j36fI/AAAAAAAAMbw/Ao33XId4-SU/s320/DSC02578.JPG" /></a><br />
</div>Cut into 12 generous sized wedges or 16 smaller ones. Lay them on an ungreased cookie sheet and get ready for the best part.......Cinnamon and Sugar! Using a pastry brush, coat each scone with the heavy whipping cream.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRh14rRvLxaGxrgI4k-4IHsz6utXvYKX7RrTY1rCDCKNwAmsGRhPLfiu6I72FL8aNVMpMlKxhbU7msgmb-NUAo6n-9ow_Qzs_LlB5Gqzg9K21xxjc-sQFaJov4rirM21jI7AVikrHb43q2/s1600/DSC02581.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRh14rRvLxaGxrgI4k-4IHsz6utXvYKX7RrTY1rCDCKNwAmsGRhPLfiu6I72FL8aNVMpMlKxhbU7msgmb-NUAo6n-9ow_Qzs_LlB5Gqzg9K21xxjc-sQFaJov4rirM21jI7AVikrHb43q2/s200/DSC02581.JPG" /></a><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsAyhBb0dkI/AAAAAAAAMb0/mgJJh1VrsSE/s1600/DSC02579.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsAyhBb0dkI/AAAAAAAAMb0/mgJJh1VrsSE/s200/DSC02579.JPG" /></a><br />
</div>Once you have them coated, sprinkle with a mixture of cinnamon and sugar.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsAymfplCHI/AAAAAAAAMcA/RlM3CE4IB2w/s1600/DSC02583.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsAymfplCHI/AAAAAAAAMcA/RlM3CE4IB2w/s320/DSC02583.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Bake at 425 degrees for 12-15 minutes. The bottoms should be golden brown.<br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsAyuxHwNTI/AAAAAAAAMcY/a1hFgcE31Do/s1600/DSC02588.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/_jS3xHXAee6E/SsAyuxHwNTI/AAAAAAAAMcY/a1hFgcE31Do/s320/DSC02588.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">ENJOY! **Note** You may want to turn on your classical music (I chose Tchaikovsky) and sit down with a nice hot cup of tea:) Unless you live here. We haven't gotten the memo that it's Fall yet....<br />

I had been perusing through design blogs for several months thinking, "I should start my own." Little did I know that I was moments away from creating a monster. Sarah at Thrifty Decor Chick wrote a post about it <a href="http://thriftydecorchick.blogspot.com/2009/09/all-i-know-about-blogging.html">here</a>. She warned against it taking over your life. <br />
<blockquote style="color: #134f5c;"><b>PLEASE do not let it interfere with your life. If you have the time, post every day. If you don't -- DON'T. </b><br />
</blockquote>I didn't think that every thought that popped into my head would be in blog form and I would be putting a title to each scenario throughout my day. Not only that, but I started <i>comparing </i>my decorating and what we have been able to do with complete strangers. <br />
I was happy with my home and found inspiration through all of the great blogs I had been following. Then I started my own. Suddenly the seed of discontentment took root and I began to change my perspective from all that I have to all that I didn't. I no longer looked at my home as MY delight, but started wondering if anyone would even care what project I was doing or what I decided to makeover.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">So, while I am still wearing the hat at my very own pity party, I decided it would be very appropriate (and, as my husband the counselor pointed out, therapeutic) to write about what I DO love. I will refrain from adding all of the side notes about how each thing I love could be improved <i>if only</i>.....<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">The Yellow Cottage....<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3AUn2MlTuGmmbL6rM5o1yAYucmIc21DAmG1uIWwfEeHuE3B1Q-lBnKWq0iDu5FmgZvr4ZuEs-v6VtndIdIXMkJR4zzEvnT3djDHWFX8Zpz3OMh8jYl08nwEbFffNT-Ilsxr2tmz399V4M/s1600/DSC01171.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3AUn2MlTuGmmbL6rM5o1yAYucmIc21DAmG1uIWwfEeHuE3B1Q-lBnKWq0iDu5FmgZvr4ZuEs-v6VtndIdIXMkJR4zzEvnT3djDHWFX8Zpz3OMh8jYl08nwEbFffNT-Ilsxr2tmz399V4M/s320/DSC01171.JPG" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">One of the reasons I love our home is because of the yellow exterior. This was only amplified when we added the green (my favorite color in almost any shade) door. It makes me happy when I return to it from a long trip or just from a walk around the block.<br />

This lovely lady was handed down as a whole bedroom set made by Broyhill and originally made it's debut as a nightstand. I can't believe I have lived with it looking like this for as long as I have. If you think something in your home doesn't look all that bad, just take a photo of it. As you can see from the photo, it is dwarfed by our very large TV. You can still see the remnant of white paint in the back from when we first inherited it....9 years ago. For lack of anything better to use, I decided to paint it brown so it would "blend" in. Hmmmm....I don't think becoming THE eyesore of a room helps it accomplish that.<br />

</div>I had been wanting to do something about this poor lost soul for some time when I stumbled upon a tablecloth on clearance at Target. It was just the thing I needed to give this old gal a new look. I, of course, enlisted the help of my sister and she came with staple gun in tow. She measured from the center out and began "pleating" and stapling as she went. Since she made it look so easy, I just let her keep her groove on. The bonus of using the tablecloth was that once we cut it to length, we didn't have any piece to sew. The top piece was folded under before it was stapled. We used the finished edges for the hem and where they met in the middle. (For easy access to all electronics.)<br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Once you have your fabric stapled up, go back over the staples with your hammer to make sure they have all been pushed in to the wood.<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVK3CsvjIrcddZLk0rTiRu_IfS-m7OTluUGJdCBbUCcCediC6D_rHXDtOsmw_22TAk6PqCpUeRAbT3pwfzRrYBnOzu_KjY06DN0fHBOTMbjxD3_2Ksp30sy7Id7RlSrnYru5yuKhAnpXs4/s1600/DSC02379.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVK3CsvjIrcddZLk0rTiRu_IfS-m7OTluUGJdCBbUCcCediC6D_rHXDtOsmw_22TAk6PqCpUeRAbT3pwfzRrYBnOzu_KjY06DN0fHBOTMbjxD3_2Ksp30sy7Id7RlSrnYru5yuKhAnpXs4/s320/DSC02379.JPG" /></a><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Next, you will want to have some trim to cover all of your staples. I found some great trim at JoAnn's on clearance for 99 cents a yard! Just grab your glue gun and get to gluing.<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhg_hGZylNTFKdP1-F-1MXTP0JIyu-xWybFWMvX1A7oYqpaKJ6FTVgCC6Aftv-tesPC6ryaDWR5FGHYWPub96zxMOSq1qUmWkJOTgOahSG7jGEL9-ThPxbQSf806zpwhHeHU7bNDkOkxPV5/s1600/DSC02437.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhg_hGZylNTFKdP1-F-1MXTP0JIyu-xWybFWMvX1A7oYqpaKJ6FTVgCC6Aftv-tesPC6ryaDWR5FGHYWPub96zxMOSq1qUmWkJOTgOahSG7jGEL9-ThPxbQSf806zpwhHeHU7bNDkOkxPV5/s320/DSC02437.JPG" /></a><br />
</div>Be sure to fold the edge over on the end and apply a good helping of glue.<br />

</div>Now, here she is...in all her glory. It isn't my first choice to have the TV be such a large part of the living room, but this just shows you what adding a little bit of fabric can do to change the vibe. I love the texture of the fabric and how well the trim ties in with my couch without being loud. Hopefully, the 60's have finally left the building.<br />
